Does it ever produce horrible smells? I'm looking at houses in the area but don't want to get a horrible surprise the first time in rains and the whole area starts to stink. Thanks! A bit further away than the others, but value for money. Has anyone any knowledge of this place? Was it a Nursing Home, a Hospital, or what????? Where was it located, - Street name??? Does the building still exist? It was, I believe, a maternity hospital - it was certainly operating as such in 1950 when I was born there! Sometime in the late-fifties, early sixties, it became a Nursing home for the elderly. It was eventually demolished to make way for the much bigger Nursing home that now occupies the site. The entrance of the new Woodlands is in Cavendish Road and, presumably, that is it's postal address. I am researching my family tree and today received a death cert. of relative who died at address: The Woodlands, Devonshire Road, Colliers Wood. My relative was 89 so perhaps it was a nursing home.
