Post reply -->London Brick Lane Jackie ^ Brick Lane Brick Lane is fantastic on the one hand,in that it has some great bars and a plethora of eateries and is close to spitalfields market and a numnber of other dodgy street markets which seem to crop up on a Sunday. Its not so great in that 'urban chic' can get you down if you yearn for greenery and a bit of peace - plus its not very safe walking the back streets beyond the sanctity of Brick Lane itself. Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane Urban chic...Yes, lots of the above and although the streets are not lined with trees it is easy to walk/cycle to Victoria Park along the canal which is gorgeous (and huge). If you do yearn for beautiful views from your bedroom window though this is not the place for you! In terms of safety, I've lived around this area for over four years and as a female wondering around at night have never had any problems - obviously you don't walk along tiny back streets but is that not true of London in general? Public transport is great as well - night buses a plenty and cabs back from the West End are really cheap... Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane The Vibe Bar^ Brick Lane 93 Feet East is a little better^ Brick Lane HOOKAH LOUNGEcan anyone tell me about hookah lounge on brick lane, have done many searches, but cannot find a thing. Is it suitable for a hen night. Post reply -->London Brick Lane Sangeeta ^ Brick Lane Hookah LoungeI want to hire out the Hookah Lounge for my 30th birthday, but want to find out about capacity, cost, music, food etc. The booking would be for around late January 2005. Mail-me Post reply -->London Brick Lane Catherine Learmount 19 Jul ^ Brick Lane Re: Hookah LoungeIf you refer to a Hen Night in the sense of drunken women with learner plates and fairy wings, then the Hookah Lounge probably isn't for you. However, if you want somewhere to go for drinks and a nice shisha, you're pretty much sorted. Going into the hookah lounge is like stepping into a scene from the english patient, and the atmosphere is very chilled. Post reply -->London Brick Lane 8 May ^ Brick Lane Biggest concentration of curry houses in LondonThey stand outside and try to lure you in! You can't fail to get a great meal round here...if you like curry that is! Post reply -->London Brick Lane livingjules ^ Brick Lane The negative side......to balance out all the positive stuff on this page. I moved out after the novelty wore off.. I never got to feel comfortable with the constant stares and singing (!!) I attracted from the Bangladeshi males (by the way, has anyone ever spotted a Bangladeshi woman on the streets?!). There's also a lot of poverty and crime from nearby estates. Crackheads hung out near my flat. The area by the farm is EXTREMELY dodgy by night. Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane TaxisCommerical Cars - they are actually on Commercial Road, but very reliable. Post reply -->London Brick Lane cab taxi transport ^ Brick Lane i paid...for a 3 bed flat on brick lane last year about £80 a month council tax... Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane SupermarketsThere is (1) a Tesco Metro opposite Liverpool St station - this is an 8 min walk from Brick Lane. Then (2) a Sainsbury's on Whitechapel High St (this is a full size one), and (3) a 24h Tesco Metro on Bethnal Green Road. These are the nearest 'fully stocked' supermarkets. There are shops & supermarkets on or near Brick Lane, but you won't find any European dairy products or good bread selection here. There are lots of interesting Asian cooking ingredients & veges though. I would recommend a Taj Stores about half way down Brick Lane. There is a big cheap cash & carry behind the old brewery on Spital St. Don't buy meat around here.. our's went bad the next day. I've also heard stories in the papers about local halal butcheries..... Post reply -->London Brick Lane supermarket romance friend ^ Brick Lane Private gyms in Brick LaneThere is a Fitness First in Liverpool St Station and at Old St for £39 a month. Also a Fitness Exchange in Spitalfields... Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane No pools....I haven't found any good sports centres around here. They're all municipal and dilapidated!! Go to the City for better gyms, but couldn't find a pool anywhere. Post reply -->London Brick Lane ^ Brick Lane^ Brick Lane saschlet@yahoo.co.ukThere is a fitness exchange at the wool exchange just next to spitalfields market. there's a gym and squash courts. quite basic. Post reply -->London Brick Lane Sascha 8 Dec ^ Brick Lane TubeThe East London line is virtually deserted!!! It runs fine though... The other lines are ok.. not too packed. The central line smells of BO & curry - but thats the case for the whole line! Post reply -->London Brick Lane tube train transport |
